Liam received his degrees (BAH, MA, PhD) in Developmental Psychology from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He has been providing treatment and conducting research on offenders and forensic patients for more than 25 years. Liam has 100+ peer-reviewed publications and is co-author of four books. He is a board member and reviewer for many international journals. Liam has provided consultation to governments and delivered trainings for staff working with offenders and forensic patients in 26 countries. Liam was recently named an Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) Fellow for his extensive contributions to the organization’s goals. He is currently Director of Rockwood Psychotherapy & Consulting, a Researcher with the Waypoint Research Institute, and provides clinical services to Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, primarily in the High-Secure Provincial Forensics Programs Division.


Research Synopsis

Treatment and transition for forensic patients; the reduction of inpatient violence; the prediction of risk for elopement from general and forensic mental health settings; reducing the use of seclusion and restraint in institutional settings; dynamic criminogenic and protective factors in forensic patients; adverse childhood experiences in forensic patients; sexually offensive behaviour; effective psychotherapy for patients with a psychotic disorder.
