MD Student Awards
Awards recognizing the accomplishments of MD students completing their undergraduate studies in medicine. Recipients are selected by the Deparment of Psychiatry and awarded by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Benjamin W. Appleton Prize in Psychiatry
This prize is awarded to a student in the final year who has demonstrated special interest and achievement in the field of psychiatry, on the nomination of the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.

Nominated by the Labatt Family Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and awarded by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Jean Wasserman Wolfman Prize In Child Psychiatry
Established by Mrs. Edie Yolles in memory of her late sister, the Wasserman Prize is awarded award to a student in the final year of the medical program who excels in the field of Child Psychiatry, with preference given to a student who most significantly investigates some aspect of autism in children during their elective period.

Dr. Samuel Stein Memorial Award
The Stein Memorial is awarded to a graduating medical student who has demonstrated excellence in therapeutic communications during core and/or elective rotations in Psychiatry.

Nominated by the Department of Psychiatry and awarded by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Stan Kushnir Memorial Award
This award has been established by family, friends and associates of the late Dr. Stan Kushnir, a graduate of the University of Toronto and past president of the Ontario Society of Clinical Hypnosis. It is awarded a student in the final year of the medical program, has demonstrated special interest and achievement in the field of Psychiatry.

Nominated by the Department of Psychiatry and awarded by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
Shah Family Award for Shared Experience & Advocacy in Mental Health
This award recognizes excellence in their area of training and strong advocacy in support of patients and providing psychiatric care.
Type: Philanthropic
Eligible recipients: Residents, undergraduate students, and fellows are all potentially eligible to be selected as winners.
Amount: $4,000
Criteria:
Applicants for this award should demonstrate excellence in their area of training and strong advocacy in support of patients and providing psychiatric care.
Nomination process:
Applicants will be invited to include a letter in their submissions which reflects on their lived and/or shared experience with mental health and its influence in their chosen career path as well as their goals upon completion of their training. The Committee will evaluate this letter as part of their application package and preference will be given to applicants who complete this component. Applicants will also submit an updated CV and one letter of reference.
