The Mental Health Program at North York General Hospital (NYGH) is a comprehensive service providing sub-specialty care across the lifespan including child and adolescent, seniors, perinatal, consultation liaison, eating disorders, ACTT, mental health & justice, addiction services, and emergency psychiatry. This includes 29 general adult inpatient mental health beds, 19 geriatric mental health beds, 6 child and adolescent inpatient beds, and a comprehensive day hospital program. A mental health emergency services unit is currently in construction with an anticipated opening in December 2023.
In an effort to improve access to timely treatment, we support shared care models in collaboration with primary care colleagues and the development of stepped care programming in the treatment of complex and higher risk populations. This includes enhancing community partnerships in the development of the North York Toronto Health Partners (NYTHP) OHT, and working with our interprofessional mental health team in the provision of evidence based and time limited, group-based therapy programs.
The department of psychiatry and the mental health program is a highly collegial and supportive interprofessional environment with high workplace satisfaction amongst our physician group. We welcome residents and learners in all clinical areas. We aspire to set standards for hospital systems in the provision of psychiatric care to our diverse and multicultural population.
