Sinai - Perinatal Psychiatrist, Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Scientist
Recruitment of Clinical (MD) Positions at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto
Sinai Health’s Department of Psychiatry is currently seeking a Psychiatrist to join our Department as Full Time Faculty, in our Perinatal Mental Health Program, either as a Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Scientist.
Mount Sinai Hospital is home to the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women’s and Infants’ Health, the largest program in Canada of its kind, where services include pregnancy planning, high risk obstetrics, genetics, labour and delivery, complicated terminations and a menopause clinic among many other clinical and academic programs. The Perinatal Mental Health Program at Sinai Health is affiliated with this leading Women’s and Infants Centre and is also one of the largest perinatal mental health programs of its kind in Canada for pregnant women and new parents experiencing psychiatric illnesses during the reproductive years and beyond. In 2024, Sinai Health is launching the Centre for Mature Women’s Health, which will include academic and clinical collaborations with our Department.
The Perinatal Mental Health Program is a busy academic program, with clinical, teaching and scholarship activities and active collaborations with community partners. Working side-by-side with allied health care providers, our goal is to deliver high quality care to pregnant people and their partners, who struggle with a wide array of psychiatric disorders and stressful life events, including trauma and losses. We see patients from conception up to one year postpartum and treat with medications and different psychotherapy modalities, including several focused groups. Our program has developed innovative initiatives that support people locally in Toronto and in underserved communities. Given high demands for our services, the clinical program has also been active in developing patient tailored models of care but also enforcing capacity building with obstetricians, midwives, family doctors and public health partners. Academically, we provide clinical opportunities to a wide variety of learners, as well as teaching within psychiatry and to our colleagues in other disciplines. In terms of research, we are invested in various projects locally, and in collaboration with the larger Toronto, and Ontario, reproductive psychiatry programs.
The program is seeking a Full-Time Psychiatrist to join and contribute to the clinical and academic focus of the program. The role includes clinical activities in our outpatient clinic, such as assessing and treating patients individually and in groups, along with teaching a diversity of learners and participating in academic activities. We are especially seeking candidates with interest in establishing innovative models of care, supporting patients with complex and concurrent disorders, and/or developing interventions to ensure that we are reaching the GTA’s diverse, at-risk populations. There are opportunities to develop Clinician-Educator or Clinician-QI foci for interested candidates.
In addition to the activities of the Perinatal Mental Health Program opportunities, there are also expectations to participate in supervising medical students and psychiatry residents more broadly within the department, along with opportunities to teach midwifery students and OB-GYN residents and fellows.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the clinical and academic activities of the Department of Psychiatry, including Grand Rounds, On-Call activities, and Medical Education.
This is a full-time academic position, requiring an aligned academic position description.
Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario and be eligible for appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor or above at the University of Toronto.
This position is remunerated through departmental stipends ( AFP and Sessionals) and OHIP Fee-for Service billings.
