Raed Jad Hawa
MSc, MD, FRCPC, DABSM, DABPN, DFAPA, DFCPA
Dr Hawa is a clinician teacher, educator and administrator.
He is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and the Canadian Psychiatric Association; a Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, the American Board of Obesity Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with subspecialty training in Consultation-Liaison Medicine and Sleep Medicine. He is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. He is also the President of the Canadian Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
He has multiple teaching and educational awards locally, nationally and internationally including:
- The Robin Hunter award for postgraduate education
- The Abraham Miller award for Undergraduate education
- The Helen Betty award for Excellence in Faculty Development
- The Wightman Berris award for both undergraduate and postgraduate education
- The Canadian Association for Medical Education certificate of Merit
- The Association of Chairs of Psychiatry excellence in education award
- The American Psychiatric Association Irma Bland award for postgraduate education
- The Nancy Roeske award for excellence in medical student education
He has over 90 peer reviewed papers and book chapters published in the areas of medical education, bariatric psychiatry and sleep psychiatry.
He has held many administrative positions including deputy psychiatrist-in-chief at University Health network, deputy director at the University of Toronto Medical School, director for the Consultation Liaison Division and director of Undergraduate Medical Education in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.
