Dr. Matt Robillard completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto in 1983. Further training included an internship at Toronto General Hospital, a psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto and then a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Ottawa. He was a staff psychiatrist at the Royal Ottawa Hospital for four years. From 1992 onwards, he has been a staff psychiatrist at the Baycrest Hospital. HIs university rank is Assistant Professor. He is actively involved in postgraduate teaching and is in charge of undergraduate psychiatric training at Baycrest. He is medical program director for the Inpatient Psychiatry Program.


Research Synopsis

Dr. Matt Robillard has published and presented on a variety of topics including depression rating scales, dexamethasone suppression test, clinical characteristics and response to SSRI's of a group of elderly shoplifters, and novel treatments of mood disorders. The focus on novel treatments of mood disorders has included work on buspirone augmentation of antidepressant therapy, calcium channel blockers as a treatment option in bipolar disder, as well as the usage of anticonvulsants lamotrigine and gabapentin in geriatric bipolar patients.
