Dr. Genevieve Monaghan is a registered Clinical Psychologist who obtained her doctoral degree from the University of Ottawa in 2018. She is a clinical consultant and CBT trainer for the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, where she is also pursuing clinical outcome research. In private practice, she works with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a range of problems including difficulties with mood and anxiety, eating disorders and body image concerns, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and emotional dysregulation, among others.

Dr. Monaghan has received training across evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and enhanced CBT for eating disorders (CBT-E), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT for PTSD), Solution-focused Family Therapy, among others. Dr. Monaghan has also worked in diverse settings including hospital-based eating disorders, CBT and DBT programs, school boards, and various private institutions. Throughout her Ph.D., Dr. Monaghan’s research focused on identifying cognitive antecedents to disordered eating behaviours and studying the impact of diet myths on behaviour, while developing a CBT-based group intervention to target these antecedents. She had the opportunity to share these findings at numerous national and international conferences and continues to enjoy engaging in related academic and community discussions. Dr. Monaghan continues to feel passionate about eating disorder prevention research.

Dr. Monaghan’s treatment approach is rooted in evidence-based practice and draws on established clinical practice guidelines and empirically supported treatments while emphasizing client goals and needs.
