The Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division of The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), are seeking to recruit a Scientist – Academic Psychiatrist, to build a program of clinical, research and creative professional activities specifically in the area of Bipolar Disorder, as well as to provide clinical care in the General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division. As a Clinical lead, the candidate will be expected to create a clinic focused on the assessment and treatment of patients with bipolar disorder to serve needs within CAMH and the surrounding community. The clinic will employ a team-based care approach and utilize measurement in the delivery of care. As a Scientist, the successful candidate will be required to establish local, national, and international collaborations, provide practical supervision of undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral research trainees, and technical staff. The successful candidate will be expected to lead research activities, maintain an active publication record, and secure extramural funding sources for those activities. They will also disseminate research results through presentations at academic meetings and conferences and communicate ideas to key decision makers. Participation in leadership advisory groups at CAMH and externally is expected. There are also teaching opportunities with undergraduate and post graduate students, elective residents and fellows. The successful candidate will be required to have an MD and PhD and will have an academic position description of Clinician Investigator and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto.
CAMH is Canada’s premier addiction and mental health facility and a world leader in the diagnosis and care of patients with addiction and mental disorders, offering a wide spectrum of care, from treatment for the first episode to care for the severely and persistently mentally ill. It is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, the largest and most prestigious research-intensive university in Canada. The General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division is one of the largest outpatient programs in Ontario receiving more than 25,000 referrals each year. The outpatient program is highly interconnected with other the emergency and inpatient units as well as specialized services throughout the hospital.
The successful applicant must hold an MD and PhD degree and be eligible for a Clinical Full-Time appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. They must have, or be eligible for, certification in Psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate must have a track record of publications in the area of bipolar disorder. The successful candidate is required to have graduate training in research pertaining to the treatment and neurobiology of bipolar disorder. Training in quality improvement is an asset and if the candidate does not have formal training it will be expected that they participate in more formal QI training through the Faculty of Medicine. Applicants must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. As a full-time staff member at CAMH, the candidate will provide on-call services as part of their clinical responsibilities.
Remuneration will consist of a combination of OHIP billings, administrative stipend and 2 protected days for research, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
