Donald Wasylenki Education Day (DWED)
Now in its 14th year, DWED continues to foster educational excellence by bringing together faculty, staff, and trainees. Dr. Emile Servan-Schreiber delivered the Fotheringham Memorial Lecture, exploring the power of collective intelligence and the value of inclusive, diverse dialogue in decision-making. The event featured a record number of poster presentations, highlighting educational innovation and sparking collaboration. A Mentoring Lunch enabled career-focused conversations between junior and senior faculty. Two workshops, offered in partnership with the Centre for Faculty Development, explored Generative AI in education and clinical teaching fundamentals. In recognition of its impact, the DWED planning committee received the 2024 Department of Psychiatry’s Excellence in Faculty Development Program Award.
Mentorship Program
This year marked the 4th year since the launch of the Department’s inaugural Mentorship Program, offering 1:1 mentorship supported by peer mentorship groups, aligned with faculty’s academic role and social identity. New groups included a Racialized Women’s group, with a Clinician Quality Improvement group being planned for launch. The peer mentorship program has been sustained for the past three academic years and received both the Department’s 2024 Excellence in Faculty Development Award and Temerty Medicine’s 2025 Helen Batty Award for Excellence in a Faculty Development Program. It has been widely disseminated, with over 15 academic presentations and two peer-reviewed publications.
STACER Examiner E-Module
A new self-directed e-module was launched to train faculty in assessing the STACER, a key residency milestone. The highly evaluated module increases access to high-quality training and has been adopted beyond U of T, including by the University of Ottawa. Its development and impact have been presented at national and international conferences
