Annual Report 2024 - 2025: Baycrest

Hospital Partner Reports

Submitted by Dr. Robert Madan, Psychiatrist-in-Chief

Baycrest is an academic health sciences centre that is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Baycrest provides a wide range of clinical services with a comprehensive continuum of care for older adults.  The Strategic Plan Vision is “A world where every older adult lives with purpose, fulfillment, and dignity.”

The Baycrest Mental Health Programs include inpatient psychiatry, ambulatory mental health clinic, outreach, psychiatric day hospital, consultation liaison, and telepsychiatry to underserved regions.

Significant accomplishments:

  1. The Baycrest International Geriatric Mental Health Rounds (I-GEMH) have taken place on a monthly basis and have had a global reach, with participants from 45 countries. In an effort to increase intersession interaction and collaboration, a What’s App group was developed and currently has 233 members. The I-GEMH rounds have become incredibly popular, with attendance of 200-260 participants at the most recent events.
  2. Baycrest psychiatrists have had ongoing success in obtaining Alternate Funding Plan Innovation research grants and this has led to publications and national/international dissemination.
  3. Baycrest psychiatrists have had active leadership roles in national and international organizations including the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry, the International Psychogeriatric Association, and the Canadian Coalition for Senior’s Mental Health.
