Submitted by Dr. Sumeeta Chatterjee, Director, Forensic Psychiatry Subspecialty Residency Program
The Forensic Psychiatry Subspecialty Residency Program at the University of Toronto enjoyed another successful academic year. As one of the largest forensic psychiatry training programs in the country, our program remains committed to always striving for educational excellence and fostering productive and engaging teaching environments. Our forensic faculty are a dedicated, diverse, and skilled group, complemented by the many non-physician professionals such as lawyers and judges, who donate their time to enhance the educational objectives of our program. Our Residency Program Committee, along with partners within the CAMH Forensic Service, remain committed to issues of recruitment, retention, physician wellness, and burnout, through various initiatives including research in the area and activities driven by our program’s Wellness Lead. Over the past year, our program has developed an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion action plan that is in the initial phases of roll out. Under the direction of the Chair of the Competence Committee and lead in Faculty Development, Dr. Laeticia Eid is studying the impact of teaching in the medical humanities pre- and post-CBD implementation, with an eye on continuous improvement efforts within the curriculum. We are also proud of our subspecialty residents who presented teaching innovations in the curriculum at the national Forensic Psychiatry Conference this past year. We look forward to continuing our journey with our next resident cohort.
