Dr. Mark Mohan Kaggwa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He is a foreign trained psychiatrist (Uganda), with an MBChB from Gulu university and a Master of Medicine (MMED) specializing in Psychiatry at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. He also has a fellowship in forensic psychiatry from McMaster university, Canada.

With over 6 years of clinical experience, Dr. Kaggwa has dedicated his career to advancing psychiatry, particularly in forensic psychiatry and mental health systems. His work encompasses diverse populations in hospitals, community health facilities, and academic institutions, providing tailored assessments and treatment plans for individuals facing mental health challenges.

Dr. Kaggwa is actively involved in research focusing on suicidology, university student mental health, and the intersection of mental health and the legal system. His research interests include effective interventions for individuals in forensic settings and understanding the impact of social determinants on mental health outcomes. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented his findings at national and international conferences.

In addition to his research, Dr. Kaggwa is committed to education and mentorship, guiding medical students and residents in their clinical training. He fosters an inclusive learning environment that encourages inquiry and supports the growth of future healthcare providers.

Outside of academia, Dr. Kaggwa is passionate about community outreach and advocacy, collaborating with various organizations to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma. He is a member of several professional organizations. In his free time, Dr. Kaggwa is an advocate for a better future for all and runs by a slogan: I hate single use plastic.
