Dr. Judith Laposa completed her Ph.D. at UBC, did her resident year at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and then completed a post doctoral fellowship at CAMH/U of T. Dr. Laposa is a Psychologist and Associate Scientist at CAMH, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She is CACBT-ACTCC-Certified in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. In addition to working with clients, Dr. Laposa mentors students and professionals from a variety of disciplines in the administration of cognitive behavioural therapy. She received the CAMH Excellence in Psychology Education award in 2013, 2016, 2017, and 2023, the Ontario Psychological Association Dr. Harvey Brooker Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching in 2018, the University of Toronto Psychotherapy Award for Academic Excellence in 2019, and the CAMH Excellence in Psychology Clinical Practice Award in 2024. She is the Clinical and Training Lead for the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program, CAMH site, and is one of the original co-developers of this provincial program that provides evidence based treatment for mood and anxiety conditions. Dr. Laposa was part of the expert committee working with Ontario Health to develop the provincial guidelines for the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder, as well as the clinically appropriate use of virtual care guidance for depression and anxiety related disorders. She created CAMH’s healthcare worker mental health coping skills focused psychotherapy program, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Laposa is a member of the of the 14-nation International Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Accreditation Task Force.

 

Research Synopsis

 

Dr. Laposa’s research interests focus on the measurement and evaluation of cognitive models of anxiety disorders and OCD, and mechanisms in treatment response to cognitive behaviour therapy, with particular interests in posttraumatic stress disorder, social phobia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
