Dr. Gaurav Sharma, MD, FRCPC, is a psychiatrist at Qikiqtani General Hospital (QGH) in Iqaluit, Nunavut. He serves as Chief of Psychiatry for the Department of Health, Government of Nunavut, working with colleagues across disciplines to support the development and delivery of psychiatric services throughout the territory. In addition to provision of clinical care in Iqaluit, he supports visiting psychiatrists, leads service planning and psychiatric education initiatives for colleagues. He holds a courtesy appointment at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) through the Northern Psychiatric Outreach Program, where he participates in patient care and the supervision of University of Toronto psychiatry residents. 

Dr. Sharma completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and his psychiatry residency training at McMaster University and the University of Toronto. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. His additional training has included the Summer Program in Social and Transcultural Psychiatry at McGill University and a fellowship in psychiatric education through the National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative. 

His academic interests include collaborative models of care, psychiatric education, app-based interventions in the inpatient setting, and delivery of mental health services in rural and northern communities.  

Dr. Sharma participates in medical education through teaching, curriculum development, and clinical supervision. He is a regular contributor to the PsychEd Podcast, a psychiatric education podcast. His clinical work is guided by the principles of patient-centred care and evidence-based medicine.
