Research Synopsis

Dr. David J. Dixon, BSc, MD, MA, FRCPC, DPhil, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and in the Centre for the Study of Religion, University of Toronto. Much of Dr. Dixon's research has focused on the interface between psychiatry and religion including: psychiatric and religious aspects of racism, antisemitism, and other forms of intolerance; the psychology of religion; fundamentalism; and religious, psychiatric, and ethical issues related to organ transplantation. In addition, Dr. Dixon has research interests in psychiatric aspects of medical illness, and in the history of religion. Recent teaching at the University of Toronto has been in the areas of antisemitism, racism, fundamentalism, the history of Christian thought, and psychoanalytic perspectives on religion.
