Dr. Arun Ravindran is a Full Professor and Director of Global Mental Health Affairs and the Office of Fellowship Training for the Department of Psychiatry. He is cross-appointed as Graduate Faculty in the Department of Psychology and at the Institute of Medical Sciences. He is also the Medical Chief of Mood and Anxietys at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Dr. Ravindran trained in Psychiatry at the University of London, completed his MSc in Neurobiology at Brunel University UK, and received his PhD in Behavioural Neurosciences at Johns Moore University and the University of Liverpool UK.

Involved in several international mental health initiatives in different parts of the globe, Dr. Ravindran is an active member of the International Health Group at CAMH. He is a founding member of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations (AFPA) (which is affiliated with World Psychiatric Association) and the current Chair of the South Asian Forum for Mental Health and Psychiatry International, Canadian Chapter. Both of these organizations have as their mission improving mental health in the developing world through training, capacity building and humanitarian aid.


Research Synopsis

Dr. Ravindran’s clinical interest is in the area of mood and anxiety disorders. His research focus is on the behavioural pharmacology of psychotropic agents and their synergy with psychological and alternative therapies, and the use of functional neuroimaging to examine the etiology and treatment correlates of these illnesses. He has held or currently holds grant funding from national and international agencies and is a two-time recipient of the R. O. Jones Research Paper Award from the Canadian Psychiatric Association.
