Donald Wasylenki Education Day

The 7th Annual Donald Wasylenki Education Day will be taking place from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM on Thursday Feb. 8, 2018 at the Chestnut Conference Centre (89 Chestnut St.). All members of the Department including trainees and staff are encouraged to attend and registration is FREE.

The Department is moving towards a full rollout of Competency By Design (CBD) for all PGY-1 residents and a pilot CBD program for some PGY-2 in July 2018. The morning plenary session will focus on helping the Department prepare for these upcoming changes in training. In addition to an overview of CBD concepts and approaches, there will be a focus on helping teachers (both faculty and senior residents) practice providing feedback to residents within a CBD framework, using specific CBD-related tools.

The lunchtime poster session will feature some of the educational innovations and scholarship occurring in our Department. Come see the interesting and creative things that your colleagues are doing in teaching and education.

The afternoon session will feature several workshops with a choice of two per time slot. These workshops provide an opportunity for participants to engage in more depth with topics related to teaching, education, and academic career development. Two of the topics will focus on specific teaching roles in the CBD curriculum. The workshop topics will be:

• Developing and running a longitudinal ambulatory clinic

• Coaching for successful clinical performance

• Teaching effectively in the case-based learning (CBL) format

• Supporting trainees through an experience of suicide
