Orientation For New Faculty 2025 (Part 5) - Newly Accredited - VIA Zoom FROM 12-2 PM
Part 5: Unconscious Bias Education Workshop
Speakers: Dr. Fiona Rawle and Dr. Shaheen Darani
Online via Zoom
Join us at Part 5 of our newly accredited orientation as we welcome our new faculty and provide an introduction to the academic roles and responsibilities of faculty in our Department. As part of our Department’s commitment to EDIIA, building on the initiative we started in 2021, we will continue to provide Unconscious Bias training to our faculty members in 2025 in partnership with the Toronto Initiative for Diversity & Excellence (TIDE). Discover tips on how begin a successful academic career and meet your colleagues.
All new full-time or status-only faculty members, or those who have not yet completed the training, are invited to register for a 2-hour training session that will include didactic content and facilitated break-outs adapted specifically for the Department of Psychiatry.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the existing evidence on representation and bias
- Describe best practices on how to advance equity and inclusion in their clinical and academic practices
- Explain how bias can affect decision-making
- Explore strategies for reducing the effect of bias on structural and personal practices
- Apply bias mitigating approaches through scenario-focused case studies
Note that all new faculty members are strongly recommended to attend the Workshop on Unconscious Bias within the first 3 years of their appointment.
Having completed this or an equivalent training will is strongly recommended for annual reappointment. ALL faculty are welcome to attend. There is a maximum of 80 people per session and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parts 1 to 4 of Faculty Orientation take place in-person on November 21, 2025. Attendees are required to register separately.
